This series of seven videos against a backdrop tailored to each era traces the milestones and events in the history of the European Union from its creation in the 1950s to today. Europe Day celebrated all over the EU

Friday 9 May marked the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. This was a foundational step in the creation of the EU as a project for peace, which is why we commemorate the occasion with Europe Day. Celebrations took place all over Europe, from festivals in Hungary and Slovakia, to open-air concerts in Croatia and France, and a young people’s debate in Romania! In Brussels, the Learning corner team was also quite active, showcasing the Learning corner to visitors and engaging them with educational resources about the EU. Ending gender stereotypes – start the conversation in your classroom!

What kind of person comes to mind when you think of a firefighter? What about a nurse? Gender stereotypes are deeply ingrained in our culture and often we aren’t even aware of them, yet they can influence our life choices , from our aspirations to pursue a field of study or professional career, to simple things like picking a hobby. They can affect both men and women, and they limit everyone’s freedom. The EU needs YOU! Youth Policy Dialogues and citizen engagement

Do your students want to voice their opinions in the world of politics? We’ve created a space where they can! The Youth Policy Dialogues are annual events where EU Commissioners meet with groups of young people across the EU to talk about a wide variety of topics, ranging from housing and climate to skills and health. The first round of discussions has already taken place, and now we want to hear from you! Visit the website and encourage your students to endorse contributions that matter to them. Europe’s Water Crisis: 4 Solutions

Europe has an ongoing water crisis, which is now reaching critical levels. Are you and your students affected by water issues in your area? The latest EU climate campaign: #ForOurPlanet

Spring is in the air, but did you know we’re entering a season of international climate awareness too? Earth Day falls on 22 April, while the EU Green Week runs from 3-5 June. That’s why from 22 April – 5 June, the EU will be running its third season of the #ForOurPlanet campaign – an opportunity for individuals and schools alike to share stories of their activity to protect, restore, and care for the planet, with the hashtag #ForOurPlanet. This year the campaign will focus on circular economy, and emphasises positive, easy to implement practices: what can YOU do? It’s about more than just recycling! Reuse – Share – Upcycle – Repair! Do you have an inspiring story? Get involved and share your work!

 
HistoriCall

The rule of law: why it matters

The rule of law is one of the EU’s fundamental values, essential for guaranteeing democracy and everybody’s rights and freedoms. It is based on six core principles: equality before the law, legal certainty, no abuse of power, independent courts, legality and the separation of power. Learning Corner turns 6!

It’s now been six years since the Learning Corner first launched, creating and promoting engaging educational materials in all 24 EU languages for young people aged 5-18. Whether you are a curious young European citizen or a teacher looking for resources to support your teaching about the EU, the Learning Corner is here for you. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the journey, accessing our website and using our resources – we had over 5 million people visit the site last year alone. Science is wonderful! Let’s explore

The vast majority of Europeans believe that science and technology have an overall positive impact on society, and most Europeans want to learn more about scientific and technological developments! This finding is the result of a recent Eurobarometer survey on European citizens' knowledge and attitudes towards science and technology released on 3 February 2025. Europeans think that, thanks to science and technology, there will be more opportunities for future generations and that young people’s interest in science is essential for our future prosperity. Disinformation – can your students spot it?

It’s already been seven months since the European elections – were your students able to take part and vote? Do they remember seeing campaign posters around your town, or posts on their social media feed? Could they tell if these posts were authentic, or if they were aimed at spreading false information and undermining candidates? Democracy is under attack across Europe and the world. Under this new mandate, the EU will be taking stronger action to defend democratic values, so we can continue to live in a free, fair society. However, there are also ways for your students to stay informed and vigilant against activity which seeks to undermine our faith in democracy. Juvenes Translatores 2024-2025: the winners are announced!

The Juvenes Translatores competition has been inspiring young linguists since 2007, and this year's theme was "Digital Citizenship Education''. On the day of the competition, participants translate a page of creative writing between two of the EU’s 24 official languages. 27 young translation enthusiasts, one from each EU member country, have emerged triumphant, after having dazzled the judges with their skills. The Prize These winners will celebrate their achievement at an award ceremony in Brussels with their parents and teachers, where they will collect their prizes and get to explore the city with their fellow linguists. Safer Internet Day takes place in February every year and is an internationally recognised occasion to raise awareness of online safety for people of all ages, but especially young people. As the digital world plays a growing role in our daily lives, it is important to know how to navigate this space so that we make the most of its benefits and are aware of its risks. The aim of Safer Internet Day is to help young people, their parents and teachers to confidently use digital spaces whilst remaining safe online.
